A Special President's View at the Season 2007

Love this White and Blue
- Music by Bob Dylan (Tangled Up in Blue) lyrics by Ryan McKee

Early one morning the sun was shining
I was lying in bed
Wondering about the first game of the year
Away to Grads Red
Deep down I thought this year together
Sure was gonna be tough
We were in the big leagues now
Was our list deep enough?
But we were on song and in reply
The Reds bitched man you'd wish you were deaf
In the end we got the win
When at the ref a bottle they threw
A good start for the White and Blue.

Our one team grew to two
And we were promoted to take on the best
The new boys were in for a shock
When greeted by Jan's beep-test.
The recruiting staff were full of pride
As the new doves made their mark
When the team was down, the youngsters
Could be relied on for a spark
Carlo and the Geez,
Could tell these kids were a pretty good batch
But all their youthfulness
Could never match the things that they knew
The wise, old men of the White and Blue

The smell of danger was in the breeze
As Mercy arrived at the Nest.
Proudly showing off their State badges
They had beaten all the rest.
Kleinig wished he'd stayed abroad
As the Mercs went berserk
2 games in goal for 18 goals
All in all not a bad days work
We tried hard but on this day
The Doves couldn't take a trick
We scored once but there was no doubt
That we took our licks and paid our dues
A bad day for the White and Blue

This season more than ever
We scored some wonderful goals
They had the Doves defenders
Pleading for a change of roles
Stencel's long bomb was a gem
And for his hat-trick Tim was at his peak.
But as far as celebrations go
Nothing topped Wedgie's streak
This was a true moment of joy
The yellow card was surely in jest.
But as he flexed his sculptured arms
And his rippling chest the girls all swooned
Someone find a gym for the White and Blue

The midnight candle was burnt
So the papers were in sync
Move over Microsoft
Welcome Doves Inc
This year the club came of age
With sponsors queuing to support this flock
Wendy Higgins and Mortgage Choice
Will help you own your chosen block
ICOSA keeps the school spirit alive
Promptair keeps off the sweat
And the Cremorne is the place to be
For an afternoon bet and a jug of brew
The proud supporters of the White and Blue.

The School side put out the call
This was a recruiters dream
To wipe the year 12's off the park
Then next year welcome them to the team
The kids scored first and for a while
Us old boys felt some doubt
But three quick goals and we gained control
Still the kids gave a very good shout
The Doves looked good at night
Our trainings were never this well lit
And with pride we won our first Cup
All be it against a team of youths
A piece of silver for the White and Blue

Now I'm thinking back again
On the three years just gone
All the people that made it happen
Not really sure where they all came from
Some are landscape architects
Some are teacher's wives
It's not long since this started
But it’s added a lot to our lives
Me, I'm still at the helm
Ready for another year
But tonight I want to celebrate
And share a beer with this great crew
Yeah I love this White and Blue
